James A. King USN-RET, 81, of Wellston, Ohio, passed peacefully away on Thursday morning, July 18, 2024, at Edgewood Manor of Wellston. He was born July 3, 1943, in Hamilton, Montana, to the late Alvin E. King and Gladis Irene Ghosting. He grew up in a large German family with three brothers: Donnie King, Kenny Koenig, and Richard King, who survive, along with two surviving sisters, Mary Phillips and Shirley Nordin. Two more sisters, Kathern Helm and Edwina McDonald, are deceased. James was a 30 year active and inactive veteran of the U.S. Navy, and he received his certificate of retirement on February 5, 1991. While in the Navy in Misawa, Japan, he met his late wife who was also enlisted in the U.S. Navy, Betty Scott King, who passed away on September 23, 2008, They were married in Tokyo, Japan in 1976, and were married for 32 years. He was a former salesperson in Office supplies. He was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, David Lee Scott. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Janet Scott Spearry ( Leon) of Ray; two brothers-in-law, Roger and Dan Scott of Wellston; many nieces and nephews; and his friends at Seton Square in Wellston. Family and friends may gather at the Jenkins Funeral Chapel in Wellston on Saturday, June 20, 2024, after 10 A.M. and until 11 A.M. Graveside services officiated by John Pelletier CLP will follow at 11:15 A.M. at the Ridgewood Cemetery in Wellston. Military honors will be presented by the American Legion/ DAV Honor Guard.
