Marilyn A. Bayes, 92, formerly of Hamden, Ohio, passed away Thursday morning, May 7, 2026, at Four Winds Community, Jackson, Ohio. She was born in Jackson, Ohio, on Tuesday, July 25, 1933, to the late Arthur Bayes and Stella Hughes Bayes Smith. She was a 1951 graduate of Wellston High School and was employed as a sales clerk at many stores in downtown Wellston including Merry's Five & Dime Store, Benjamin & Co.Jewelers, and Ohio Avenue Jewelry, from where she retired. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved companion, Clovis Earl Cottrill, on August 17, 2001, and also by her brothers, John L. Smith and Donald Hughes. She leaves behind two sisters, Sharon Clark ( Don ) of Wellston and Joyce Gross of Canton, Ohio; a brother, Ike Smith ( Sally ) of Columbus, Ohio; sister-in-law, Peg Smith of Columbus Grove, Ohio; close cousin, Susannah LeMay of Wellston; her close friends, Karen Cheatwood of Wellston and Rhoda Toon-Price and Pamela Toon of Hamden; and her nieces and nephews including special nephew, Reggie Gross of Canton, Ohio and special niece, Tammy Cheatwood; and all her friends at Four Winds Community. Marilyn requested to be cremated and not to have any services following her death. Her final resting place will be next to Clovis in the Radcliff Cemetery.
