On Thursday, January 19, 2023, Mary Helen Jones passed away at the age of 93. Mary Helen was born on September 24, 1929, the eldest daughter of Corliss ( Pete ) and Mary (Gladys ) Jacobs. She was born in Jackson County, in the Welsh community of Soar. She graduated as valedictorian from Bloomfield High School in 1947, and attended Ohio University. After college, she worked for Farm Bureau Mutual, the predecessor to Nationwide Insurance. During this time, she met and married Robert ( Bob) Jones, just home from World War II. Always an avid reader, she worked briefly at the Wellston Public Library and at the Deltona, Florida Library. After Bob's retirement from the railroad, they moved to Deltona, Florida in 1987, where they again became involved in their community. Mary Helen was active in the Volusia Club, the First Presbyterian Church of Debary, and was an auxilian for the Central Florida Regional Hospital as well as Florida Hospital Fish Memorial. Mary Helen and Bob were also members of The Model A's of Greater Orlando, where she served as Vice President. Mary Helen and Bob's love of antique cars allowed them to provide their cars to movie sets and to participate in the annual Easter parade at Walt Disney World. Mary Helen is survived by daughter Lisa ( Nick) Bova of Dublin, Ohio; son Stephen ( Michelle ) Jones, granddaughter Samantha Jones, and great grandson Jayce Jones, all of Westerville, Ohio; and her sister, Nancy Hanold of Westerville.
