Mary A. Midkiff, 87, formerly of Wellston, Ohio, and most recently of Batavia, Ohio, passed peacefully away on Sunday morning, May 28, 2023, at Provision Living at West Clermont. She was born in Vinton County, Ohio, on January 1, 1936, to the late George " Bill" K. Saunders and Dorothy Emily Steele Saunders. She was Valedictorian of the Wilkesville High School graduating class of 1953. On June 15, 1953, she married her husband, James E. Midkiff, who passed away October 23, 2010. They raised two sons, Jeff ( Lisa ) Midkiff of Cincinnati and Craig Midkiff, who passed away June 1, 2018. Mary retired following 30 years employment with GTE, where she held many positions until becoming a secretary for the company. She did much research in family genealogy, enjoyed reading, and loved to square dance. She was completely devoted to Sts. Peter & Paul Church where she was active in Bible study and a member of the Vintage Club. She also helped prepare food for events at the Parish Hall. Besides her son Jeff and his wife, Lisa, she is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Susan Midkiff, of Lancaster, Ohio; two brothers, Danny ( Carol ) Saunders of Mountain Top, Pennsylvania, and Lanny ( Linda ) Saunders of Hillsboro, Ohio; four grandchildren : Jennifer (Michael ) Phillips, Amanda ( Ryan ) Schappacher, Katie ( Ryan ) Beyer, and Tyler Midkiff; four great grandchildren: Eleanor and Oliver Schappacher and Benjamin and William Beyer. Also nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Jenkins Funeral Chapel in Wellston on Thursday from 10 AM until 11:45 AM at which time a procession will go to the Sts. Peter & Paul Church for a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 12 PM officiated by Father David Young. Burial will follow in the Vinton Memorial Park in Vinton, Ohio.
